After finishing the reading for this week, I agreed with many ideas, and some of them made me reflect on my blended learning experience and the security of technology & the Internet.

First of all, I want to share my experience in the security of passphrases. I agreed with the idea that does not use similar passwords in the reading “Passphrase tips.” I have experienced that I use similar passwords and made me confused. With the development of technology, people enjoy convenience, but Internet security became a serious problem. The reading reminds me that I always use “face id” and “fingerprint” to fill the password. This is a quick and easy way to log in to different websites, but it makes me very dependent on this function, which leads to many times I cannot remember the password. Also, different websites need to protect personal information. I have received a lot of fraudulent calls because my personal information has been leaked.

Secondly, I think the pandemic pushes the development of blended learning. During the pandemic time, I back to China, and had online courses. I never thought that I could complete my university courses in other countries with different time zones. I agree with the idea in the reading “Teaching in Blended Learning Environments”, the idea is “personal reflection and shared discourse are requisite for higher learning.” Many instructors and professors encourage students to involve online discussions, which helps students participated in blended learning and do some personal reflections. Uvic has changed the online learning platform from brightspace into coursespace. I enjoy using coursespace because my courses are arranged very clearly on it, and it reminds me of the due dates for the assignments.

My “a-ha” moment is that sometimes I think the website is reliable, but in fact, it is leaking my personal information. When I shop online or watch videos, the website will automatically recommend things I like, or play videos I’m interested in. This makes me feel terrible sometimes.

Overall, those reading helps me think a lot. I am very excited to learn more about it.
